Summer is one of my favorite times of year in Placer County.
The days are longer, the evenings are warm, and it seems like everyone is outside enjoying everything our area has to offer. Whether you’ve lived here for years or you’re thinking about making Placer County home, summer is the perfect season to explore.
As a local Realtor, I spend a lot of time driving through our communities, and I always get asked what my favorite summer spots are. So today, I thought I’d share a few places and traditions that make summers here so special.
Start Your Morning Outside
One of the best things about summer is getting outside before the afternoon heat sets in.
Some of my favorite mornings start with a walk around one of our local parks, a hike in Auburn, or a stroll through Whitney Ranch or Johnson-Springview Park. If you’re looking for a bigger adventure, the trails throughout Auburn State Recreation Area offer incredible canyon views and plenty of shaded paths.
If you’re an early riser, you’ll understand why locals love mornings here.
Spend the Day on the Water
You really can’t talk about summer in Placer County without mentioning the water.
Many local families spend weekends at Folsom Lake boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply relaxing on the beach. Others head up into the Sierra toward Lake Tahoe for cooler temperatures and beautiful scenery.
Even dipping your feet into the American River near Auburn can be the perfect way to cool off after a hike. Just remember to check current water conditions before swimming, especially earlier in the summer.
Support Local Farmers Markets
Summer produce in Placer County is hard to beat.
Fresh peaches, berries, tomatoes, corn, and locally grown vegetables are everywhere this time of year. Farmers markets are a fun way to spend a Saturday morning while supporting local businesses.
You’ll also find fresh flowers, baked goods, handmade products, and plenty of food vendors.
Enjoy Community Events
One thing I love about living here is how many community events happen throughout the summer.
You’ll find outdoor concerts, family movie nights, festivals, classic car shows, Fourth of July celebrations, and local fairs almost every weekend. There is always something happening whether you’re in Rocklin, Roseville, Auburn, Lincoln, or Loomis.
These events are one of the reasons so many people fall in love with the area.
Explore Old Towns
If you’ve never wandered through Old Town Auburn or Historic Downtown Lincoln during the summer, put it on your list.
Grab lunch, browse local boutiques, stop for coffee, or enjoy live music in the evening. These downtown areas have so much character and are a great reminder of what makes Placer County unique.
Cool Off with Something Sweet
No summer is complete without ice cream.
Whether it’s your favorite neighborhood ice cream shop or a local coffee stop serving cold brew and pastries, taking a break from the heat is part of the fun.
Sometimes the best summer memories are the simplest ones.
Take Advantage of Longer Evenings
One of my favorite parts of summer is that the day doesn’t feel like it ends at 5:00.
Families are out riding bikes, kids are playing in neighborhood parks, people are walking their dogs, and patios stay busy well into the evening.
Those extra daylight hours make everyday life feel a little more relaxed.
